Working Together toolkit: developing relationships with Jobcentre Plus

The Working Together Toolkit is designed to support homelessness organisations to develop local partnerships and effective joint working with the Department for Work and Pensions and Jobcentre Plus.

Findings from our 2014 A High Cost to Pay report showed that sanctions disproportionally affect people experiencing homelessness. By working in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and local Jobcentre Plus (JCP), the homelessness sector can support clients more effectively with their benefits claim, understand conditionality and reduce the likelihood of sanctions.

Working Together events, originally delivered by Homeless Link in partnership with the DWP, aim to improve joint working between homelessness organisations and JCP staff on a local level. The success of these events has demonstrated an eagerness from both sectors to collaborate in order to improve support to mutual clients. The Working Together Toolkit was updated in 2018 thanks to the commitment of DWP and Homeless Link's members to build on this good practice.
