Research findings on the causes and consequences of homelessness. This page from the Crisis website reports that, according to its own research, the reasons for homelessness most often cited by men in the UK are relationship breakdown, substance misuse, and leaving an institution (prison, care, hospital etc), while for women the most common are physical or mental health problems and escaping a violent relationship. The organisation also posits some possible structural causes, including a lack of affordable housing, poverty, unemployment, the way the benefits system operates and the way social housing is rationed.
