Prevention is Better than Cure

A report which examines ways of preventing homelessness and rough sleeping, based on interviews with 120 homeless people who sleep rough, and staff at 19 homelessness prevention projects. Identifies factors which increase the risk of homelessness including school exclusion, alcohol and drug misuse, unemployment and experience of abuse. Examines key services which help to prevent homelessness and makes recommendations for their development. Suggests the key to preventing homelessness is a combination of adequate practical support and suitable accommodation.
