Bed & Breakfast Hotels (B&Bs) are commercially run establishments with minimal facilities, often with shared cooking facilities or no cooking facilities at all. B&Bs have been frequently used in the past by local authorities to place homeless families and other homeless people who are in "priority need" whilst the local authority investigates their circumstances or whilst they are waiting for suitable alternative accommodation to become available. B&Bs often have low standards of safety, cleanliness, privacy and security. Charges are per night and technically include the provision of breakfast although it is often not provided. Charges made by B&Bs are usually set at the maximum amount that an individual is entitled to through the state benefits system, which can mean that they are too expensive for people in low waged jobs. This keyword lists resources about B&Bs, living standards and reducing the use of B&Bs for housing homeless people.
