Many women become homeless as a result of having to flee domestic violence. Domestic violence can be defined as any incident of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between adults who are or have been in a relationship together, or between family members, regardless of gender or sexuality. A number of refuges have been set up across the country that specifically provide temporary accommodation and support for women escaping domestic violence. The Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act 2004 reformed the law to increase support to victims, give police new powers and protect same sex couples from domestic violence. This keyword includes some publication about domestic violence and housing.
