Today (9 August 2018) the Ministry for Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) announced the response to the consultation on the future funding of supported housing.

Homeless Link's Chief Executive, Rick Henderson, commented:

“We welcome the Government’s decision to retain funding (for rental costs) for supported housing within the benefit system. This was a key recommendation of Homeless Link and our members and we are pleased that the Government has listened to and acted on our concerns. This decision should ensure longer-term sustainability for the future of these vital services supporting some of the most vulnerable groups in our society.

“This announcement is also welcome in light of the imminent publication of the Government’s Rough Sleeping Strategy. By ensuring a more secure funding regime for supported housing, the sector will be in a stronger position to work alongside the Government in helping to effectively implement the Rough Sleeping Strategy.

“As the membership body for the homelessness and supported housing sector Homeless Link is committed to doing all we can to ensure long-term sustainable funding for supported housing. Along with our members, we are committed to continue to work with Government to ensure the right level of oversight and transparency across the sector so there is robust evidence that it is delivering positive outcomes for vulnerable people as well as continuing to work to ensure that the funding for the support element of supported housing also has a secure future.”
